The original 17th century Herati carpet inspiring this design hails from Eastern Persia, where it once graced an Imperial palace. In the antique piece, a symmetrical field of flowers extends from a lozenge shaped central motif. Large blossoms are disposed at intervals on stems bearing smaller blossoms, leaves and buds, in an array of deep reds, blues and browns sparked with lighter tones and white on a deep red inner field. As in the original, the new Nourison version is symmetrically balanced around a lozenge-shaped center and is even more richly populated with floral motifs. The result is a marvelous sensation of overflowing beauty that celebrates the life force in nature. Resplendent in gorgeous Persian red tones with details in azure, jade and ivory, and surmounted by a contrasting band of borders dominated by deepest black, the rug is masterfully patinated with Nourison's proprietary methods for an authentic antique appearance.
